Using Paint Colors to Sell Your House: Effective Strategies

Whether we realize it or not, color is a powerful force that can influence our mood and even what decisions we make. In fact, the art of feng shui uses color to promote positive energy in our daily lives. Color is especially influential in helping individuals sell their homes more efficiently, as color can help buyers visualize themselves thriving in a specific setting. Learn how to use paint colors to sell your house and increase its marketability.

Interior

When you’re repainting your home, it’s important that potential buyers have the ability to see themselves living in the space. As such, you’ll want to portray the appearance of a clean slate and to eliminate any of your personal belongings and designs. This will give buyers room to exercise their imaginations and envision their own styles in the home.

The colors that often work best for this kind of depersonalization are neutrals such as light gray, taupe, and white. Lighter colors can brighten up a home and make it seem more inviting to buyers. Remember that you’ll want to avoid darker colors to keep this bright atmosphere and to maintain that blank canvas appearance.

Exterior

Even if the inside of the house is beautiful, that won’t mean much if buyers aren’t interested in seeing it. Curb appeal plays a key role in encouraging potential buyers to explore more of a home, so it’s crucial that you make a statement they won’t soon forget.

Unlike with the interior, you have a bit more flexibility with the outdoor color scheme. Because you want the exterior to be eye-catching, you can choose a slightly darker color such as gray or blue. Take into account the color schemes of other houses in your neighborhood—you want your house to fit in with the established neighborhood appeal.
