So a couple of years ago my son, Blaise, really wanted to play soccer, but they didn’t have enough coaches to go around. I have never actually played soccer, but I had seen enough games that I thought, “Hey! How hard can it be?” I had previously worked for Rio Rancho High School, and I called on some of the former athletes to help get the kids in shape. They learned how to work together, and how to play through some pretty tough situations. I had this one player, she was tough as nails! She was a really good forward, but really wanted to try the goalie position – so we let her. She took a wicked ball to the face in that game, and rather than call it a day, she came off the field, got a drink of water and went back in. She stopped some really tough shots in that game. I had another player, he had some trouble adapting in social situations and we worked really hard with him all season long. By the end of the season he had made some huge progress towards working with his teammates and playing within his position. We only won ONE game, but the kids sure had a lot of fun!
