Our Tips for Keeping Your Home Warm During the Winter

October 22, 2019 John Kynor Leave a Comment

It’s that time of the year—cities all over the country are cooling down. If you’re interested in keeping your home warm during the winter, follow our tips.

For many regions in the United States, the end of the year means freezing temperatures. If you’d like a toasty living space through the cooler months, then we encourage you to follow our effective tips for keeping your home warm during the winter.

Don’t Block Your Vents

If you have limited space, placing furniture in front of your vents can be tempting. However, you need heat to circulate throughout the rooms in your home. If you can, keep chairs, couches, and other pieces of furniture from obstructing your vents.

Ensure You Use Enough Insulation

If you don’t properly insulate your home, it may feel chillier than you’d like. To prevent temperatures from dropping within your living space, consider insulating your house with a material that has a high R-value.Spray foam insulation isa preferred choice for retaining heat because it seals off cracks and openings of all sizes, effectively guarding your home against cool drafts.

Light Your Fireplace

A fireplace is a surefire way to warm up your space in the wintertime—not to mention, it sets the mood for a cozy night in. Plus, by lighting fires instead of using your heating system, you can significantly decrease your monthly energy costs.

Pull Open the Curtains

Natural sunlight is a free resource you can use to effortlessly heat up your living space. Don’t be afraid to open your blinds and curtains during the day. You’ll also find that the extra light is a mood-booster!

Repair or Replace Your Heater

Before winter’s in full force, be sure your heating system is in perfect working condition. You don’t want to wait too long to address any repairs or purchase a new heater; otherwise, you may have to cope with potentially unbearable cold.

Upgrade Doors and Windows

Double-paned windows will prevent uncomfortably chilly air from leaking into your home. Homeowners can also easily eliminate drafts by installing weatherstripping around their doors and windows. As a bonus, these options can help lower your heating bills. A final way to cut out the cold is to invest in draft excluders—simply place them under your main doors, and you’re set for the season.
