It’s the kind of activity that could give child safety campaigners a heart attack.
But nine-year-old Bobby Bradley has the full backing of his parents as he attempts to enter the record books as the youngest person ever to go on a solo balloon flight.
Bobby is to lifting off from a remote patch of New Mexico in June.
That’s my boy: Nine-year-old Bobby Bradley, pictured in the hot air balloon as his proud father Troy looks on, is preparing for his first solo flight in June
He has been ballooning since he was four with father Troy and mother Tami, who are both renowned in the sport.
As they reached for the skies, Mr Bradley would let him fire up the burners and would tell him where to go.
Now, five years after first stepping into a balloon’s basket, Bobby feels confident enough to pilot a craft on his own.
This story is very inspiring. It is great to see a young person find passion in something that is so positive and such a huge part of the Albuquerque community. Albuquerque is known for amazing weather that is particularly friendly to the balloonist community. Albuquerque is know around the world for what is called the “Albuquerque Box” which is a product of changing wind speeds and directions at different altitudes. If conditions were right for the “Albuquerque Box”, a pilot could literally fly in a big square and land right where they took off. Way to go Mr. Bradley. I will be looking for you flying over my Albuquerque Home in your hot air balloon! Way to make the community proud!
