5 Signs That You Need to Replace Your Window Treatments

October 29, 2019 John Kynor Leave a Comment

We often write off certain problems in the home as mere inconveniences and leave them unresolved without realizing that they may be more crucial than we presume. The quality of window treatments is chief among these. It’s therefore important to recognize the signs that you need to replace your window treatments, along with the difference this can make in your home.

Your Blinds Don’t Close Completely

If you turn the wand or pull the cord all the way on your blinds, but they remain partially open, the tilt mechanisms are likely worn down. When you want to shut out light or need privacy, half-open blinds cannot effectively shield your living space from rogue rays and prying eyes. Tilt mechanisms are difficult to replace, so the easiest solution is to invest in blind replacements.

Some Sections Are Missing or Bent

Old blinds often possess some signs of battering. Accidents happen, and slats may bend or break off completely. Likewise, tears or holes in roman and roller shade styles may appear over time. As is the case for partially open blinds, these damages represent nicks in the armor of your window treatment and prevent them from fulfilling their shielding purposes. If your blinds have seen better days, it may be time to retire them.

You Seek Energy Efficiency in Your Home

An often-overlooked aspect of home energy efficiency is the state of window treatments. The access that sunlight and outside air have into a room greatly affects temperatures there, which in turn can increase your use of the A/C unit. Avoiding needless energy expenditures need not be a complex process, however. By making use of custom window treatments that effectively block or allow access into the room, you can control how much hot or cold air travels inside.

Your Blinds Are Old and Unappealing

Because windows are among the first room components people see, their appearance can drastically influence one’s perception of the whole space. All it takes are some ratty old blinds to ruin your desired aesthetic. With so many styles available today, it’s easier than ever to coordinate window treatments with the rest of your décor. Into a more minimalist mood? Try the smooth simplicity of roller shades. Lean more traditional? Go with elegant wooden shutters.

Your Blinds Don’t Fit the Size or Shape of Your Window

Sometimes the blinds that you have may not fit your windows perfectly. They might protrude to the point of intrusion into your living space, or they might not fully cover the window’s surface area. To ensure that your window treatments are optimally sized to your windows, custom measurement services offer a fix for this problem. You can then replace awkward blinds with sleek, tailor-made ones.
